Mission
The
Pasadena Bioscience Collaborative (PBC) is a non-profit organization
created to support the growing biotechnology industry in the San Gabriel
Valley. It promotes and supports new company formation by providing
low-cost, high quality WetLab space and equipment to early start-ups.
The PBC also provides specialized education and training for the biotechnology
workforce, as well as access to experts in business fields such as
intellectual property, law and financial planning.
Background
The
PBC is a result of planning by individuals from many different sectors
- governmennt, education, non-profits, and private industry. California
State Senator Jack Scott and Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard spearheaded
the initiative, resulting in a collaboration that includes the following
key organizational partnerships:
- Caltech
- California
State University Chancellor's Office
- California
State University, Los Angeles
- California
State Polytechnic University, Pomona
- California
State University Program for Education and Research Biotechnology

Current
Program
Since
2004, the Pasadena Bioscience Collaborative has grown into a 3,000sf
WetLab Incubator, which has allowed entrepreneurs to develop proof-of-principle
for their particular applications. Any Intellectual Property developed
is solely owned by the companies themselves.
About
the Incubator
As a nonprofit organization,
the PBC has access to donated equipment and is, therefore, able to
provide early start-up companies with high quality facilities and
equipment at low or no cost. The WetLab currently offers shared use
of hoods, incubators, autoclave, freezers, cooloers, ice machine,
DI water, chemical storage and standard laboratory benchtop equipment.

as from California State University, Los Angeles and California State
Polytechnic University, Pomona.
Prioximity to Oak Crest Institute
of Science allows collaboration with scientists and research projects
in environmenntal sciences. The scientists of Oak Crest have visiting
faculty status at Caltech.

Your Company Started with the Help of the PBC's WetLab Incubator.
The Pasadena Bioscience Collaborative
(PBC) invites life science entrepreneurs to consider our Incubator
as the next home for their business. The PBC is a non-profit facility
that provides a shared-use WetLab at a reasonable cost.
As you move your venture from
the invention of a new scientific concept to proof-of-principle, the
PBC will provide the tools you need in a collaborative scientific
environment. Each PBC tenant has access to scientific equipment and
appliances on a shared-use basis, along with a dedicated work station
that is your business home. We also provide access to laboratory technicians
and training resources from local universities and colleges.
Being housed with a variety
of other bioscience companies allows you the opportunity to collaborate
with other tenants. The PBC also provides you with access to a host
of outside collaborators from a broad range of scientific and business
disciplines to provide additional guidance on the path to commercialization.
Because you are your own business
within the incubator, you maintain complete ownership of all intellectual
property you create. Furthermore, the PBC provides wireless high-speed
internet access and basic office equipment in order to better support
your business.
If you are ready to move from
